This installation explores the relationship we have with our ancestors, spirituality, and questions the idea of where queerness comes from. I explored the relationship between my work and my grandfather’s work, and under the agency of queer perspective I spun a fable around the idea that my grandfather may have been gay. It is not known for sure if he was or was not, but the idea of finding evidence and connecting the lines between relationship of object and images, and viewing those objects under the gaze of my own experience in the gay community, curating them to tell the tale of a suspected history of my grandfather’s life as a young adult in the 1940s. During this time in America Homosexuality was criminalized and luckily throughout time, has become accepted and tolerated in most places. Which plays into the idea of evidence tags, and the role of the artistic detective.
